Discrimination Behavior toward Chinese Ethnicity: A psychoanalytical research for writing a short story entitled "Memey"

This research is entitled Discrimination Behavior toward Chinese Ethnicity: A psychoanalytical research for writing a short story entitled "Memey" This study aims to determine the kind behaviors of discrimination experienced toward Chinese ethnic. Discrimination against Chinese ethnic in May 1998 is one of the discriminatory acts ethnic Chinese have experienced. They are mistreated by the majority ethnic to make them feel isolated in Indonesia. The Majority community label Chinese ethnic as stingy ethnic, called "Cina," and only want to communicate with Chinese ethnic. Discrimination experienced upon Chinese ethnicities is in the form of verbal and nonverbal. The discrimination can occur due to a lack of nationalism and tolerance for cultural differences and beliefs that Chinese ethnic have; it triggers discrimination and can impact Chinese ethnicity difficulty to mingle and interact with the majority ethnicity. This study uses the theory of psychological defense mechanisms, anxiety, and the core problem of Sigmund Freud. The gathering data collection was through interviews with ethnic Chinese who have experienced discrimination, direct observation and also from films, and collecting journals and articles on discrimination against ethnic Chinese. This study has explored and found forms behavior of discrimination against the Chinese ethnic that still occur in Indonesia, especially form of give someone nickname. This study hopes that it can provide views to the majority community to increase tolerance for different cultures
